Finding Multilingual Inspiration in NCT's Diversity

Have you ever imagined being part of a group where everyone can speak different languages? It must be exciting , right? You can also indirectly learn the language because you are surrounded by people who speak different languages. A study from the University of Washington found that people in an environment with various languages will have better brain activity to analyze words from other languages than those who live in an environment that only understands one language or is monolingual. While not actively learning the language, surrounding ourselves with a multilingual environment can enrich our brain's ability to process linguistic information, making it easier for the brain to capture new language patterns.

This may also be experienced by NCT (Neo Culture Technology), the K-pop boy group under SM Entertainment. If you are an NCTzen, you definitely know who they are. With their uniqueness, they often experiment with various musical concepts that make them different from other K-pop groups. One of the interesting things is that they come from diverse backgrounds, from different countries, and speak different languages, which makes them indirectly multilingual. NCT debuted in 2016 with around 25 members and has become a well-known group among K-pop fans. They have six sub-units, NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV, NCT Wish, NCT DoJaeJong, and NCT U, each with unique concepts. In addition, they are also known for their skills in vocals, dancing, rapping, and even comedy, with the silliness and humor they create to entertain their fans.

So, what languages do the members of this talented group speak? NCT is made up of people from South Korea, China, Japan, Canada, and Thailand. This diversity can enable them to speak multiple languages. For example, Hendery, whose native language is Cantonese, can speak five languages, including Mandarin, English, Korean, and a little Japanese. Even Ten, a member from Thailand, can speak English and Chinese because he is surrounded by members who speak Chinese. This diverse language background not only helps them connect with fans around the world but also makes their interactions very interesting. You can even see when they show off their language skills during interviews, variety shows, and on social media. Having friends from diverse cultural backgrounds is a great advantage because the members can learn from each other's cultures and traditions. Their multilingual skills also allow them to reach a wider audience and help them work better as a team.

However, not everything runs smoothly because language differences often create misunderstandings or miscommunication. Although some members can speak several languages, not everyone is fluent in the same language. There may be a sense of pressure for members to be proficient in multiple languages, especially during international promotions. Ultimately, NCT's multilingualism is a significant part of what makes them unique and helps them connect with fans worldwide . Although they face challenges with language and cultural differences, their diverse backgrounds ultimately contribute to their success and global appeal.
