Learn How This UNAIR English Literature Student Manages Time Effectively

One of the English Literature students at Universitas Airlangga, class of 2022, Rossy Nabila Nur Aulia, shared her experience and tips on managing time effectively despite having a busy daily schedule . She not only focused on her studies but also managed to work and find time to participate in various organizations. Take a peek at how Rossy's experience managing her time so that all activities can run in a balanced and productive way. Rossy is currently in her 6th semester and focusing on preparing her thesis proposal. She admitted that this semester feels crucial because she must manage the time between her thesis and work as a teacher. In addition, besides being active in academics, Rossy has also been involved in the English Literature Student Association (HIMA) and the Unair Girl Up community before, although now she is more selective and chooses to be active in committees that align with  her future career.

In terms of work, Rossy became a tutor in the EDSA Teaching and ELPT Preparation programs, as well as teaching at two tutoring institutions. In a day, she can teach one to three sessions, so having time discipline is essential. She arranged a lecture schedule to be completed before 3 pm so that she still had enough time in the afternoon to teach. When taking the study plan card (KRS), Rossy also set the lecture schedule so there are enough free days to teach. One of her biggest challenges is handling students' unpredictable schedules, so to get around this, she records the schedule weekly to keep it organized. If there is a clash between academic, organizational, and work activities, Rossy will prioritize the activities she has scheduled first. When it comes to time management, she relies on prioritizing based on the flexibility of activities and making a weekly schedule. She first prioritizes activities with  a fixed schedule, such as classes, then activities in organizations that are still negotiable, and finally jobs that tend to be more flexible. Since all her activities are essential to her, she tries to live them in a balanced way.

To maintain motivation, Rossy focuses more on the benefits of each activity she does, in terms of skills, career, and financial benefits. She is also selective in choosing activities to avoid wasting her time and energy. If an activity is deemed less valuable , she prefers not to take part in it. Although she is used to being busy, Rossy admits that a sense of overwhelm can still come, especially when her assignments get piled up or the frequency of teaching is increased. When she felt tired, she chose to rest and reduce the intensity of teaching the following week. Rewarding herself  is also a way to maintain enthusiasm and consistency. Rossy adds that the ability to recognize oneself is very important in time management. Being aware of our own capacity and goals helps determine how time is spent. In addition, organizational skills also play a significant role in ensuring that all activities run in a structured manner. She also feels lucky to have a supportive environment, whether from friends, family, or her partner. Support from the closest people is a source of motivation in itself. She also advised other students to keep their spirits up and ensure that everything is carried out according to their portions, without forgetting themselves as a priority. “Don't forget to put yourself as a number one priority, and don't forget to spend your time talking to others; it helps a lot!” she said.
