There’s a saying: “All roads lead to Rome”. But for English department students, it’s “All roads lead to EDSA DAY”. This year, Universitas Airlangga’s English Department Students' Association held another EDSA DAY to celebrate EDSA’s anniversary. However, like every year, there’s always something special and new! In EDSA DAY 2025, there are many exciting events.

The event starts with the 24’ cohorts Exhibition as the History of English Language and History of English Literature final project. Here, each of the classes shows a clip of how and when English and its literature transform from Old English to present-day English. Some of them highlighted the characteristics of the era uniquely, making their booth engaging and interactive with the visitors through games, well-built items, and merchandise. Some of the representatives also presented and promoted their upcoming performance of short theatre or even a poetry reading.
The next part of the event is the performance of the 24’ cohorts. Each of the classes performed their work, and even their versions of adaptation from English works. This is also part of their final project for the History of English Language and History of English Literature subject. Not only that, it is a way to show the audience and public what we, as English department students, learned.
In EDSA DAY 2025, alumni are also invited to get back together and go ‘Back in Time’. In the ‘Back in Time’ talk show, alumni glanced back at their university days and talked with the current English Department students about their activities and experiences as students in the English Department years ago. This part of the event highlighted the bond that is still maintained in the department, even if we are divided by years or even decades. As EDSA DAY 2025 became the day of celebration, the winners of SHAKESPERIOR 2025 were also awarded in this event.

However, the fun did not end there. EDSA DAY 2025 was closed by an epic and legendary ENITE, a yearly English theatre, with the title “Seconds Out”. Every year, ENITE has its own themes. In 2025, they made a cool action-themed theatre with a heartwrenching story of a young man named Neil, who went back in time to seek his unknown father. The event became a platform for students to produce, perform, and show their work and skills to the public.
The vibrant energy and meaningful connections made during EDSA DAY 2025 truly showcased the spirit of the English Department community. From creative exhibitions to compelling performances and heartfelt alumni stories, the event reflected both the rich academic journey and enduring bonds shared by students past and present. As the ENITE production “Seconds Out” brought the day to a memorable close, EDSA DAY proved to be more than just a celebration, rather a powerful reminder of growth, creativity, and unity that defines Airlangga University’s English Department.
