This predictability allows viewers to escape from their daily stresses and immerse themselves in familiar narratives. Many people seeking comfort turn to familiar media since it helps ease anxiety and encourages relaxation (Valkenburg & Peter, 2008).  Furthermore, viewers frequently form close bonds with characters and feel as though they know them personally. Additionally, viewers frequently develop strong attachments to characters and feel as though they know them personally. Rewatching can feel like catching up with old friends because of these emotional ties, which can increase interest and enjoyment in the show.

Lastly, another reason people are drawn to familiar shows is that they take less mental work when rewatched. Viewers can  easily favour engaging content after a long day filled with challenges and responsibilities. Familiar shows allow for passive viewing, where one can enjoy the story without needing to concentrate intensely on new information or complex plots. This cognitive ease can be particularly appealing during times of fatigue or stress, as it offers a comforting escape without requiring excessive  mental energy. As viewers continue to seek comfort and familiarity in their media consumption, the trend of rewatching beloved shows is likely to continue. The combination of nostalgia, emotional safety, and cognitive ease creates a strong appeal that draws viewers back to their favorite series repeatedly.
