The Life List - Nicole Rivelli/Netflix
Have you ever imagined what would happen if you were asked to make a list of your life at a certain time? Sounds fun, doesn't it? You can do the things you dream of, even if it is just a simple dream like wanting to participate in social life activities or climb mountains at least once in a lifetime.
Just like Alex (played by Sofia Carson), the main character in the film The Life List, when her mother died, instead of getting a share of the inheritance like her two brothers, she was given the task of completing her life list that she wrote as a teenager, and each time she completed the task, Alex would be given a DVD containing his mother's videos. Maybe we've all made life lists in our childhood, too, and maybe we’ve even forgotten where we put them. Just a little explanation that Alex's character here is portrayed as someone who is stuck in her life, and deeply wants to live life to the fullest.
From this film, there are some things that we can make a lesson in our lives.
First, respect the people closest to you because you don't know how long you can stay with them. In the first few minutes of the film, the scene in which Alex is seen talking to her mother shows the strong connection between the two. This scene not only illustrates the intimacy of their relationship but also implies how valuable the existence of a person who is always present in our daily lives is, and yet, often we forget to be grateful.
Next is to dare to take action like Alex, who has a lot of life lists that she must complete. At first, she seems hesitant, but eventually, she can complete them all. Some lists include performing as a comedian, being a great teacher, learning to drive, and even finding true love.
From that journey, there is a lot of chaos and obstacles full of tears or laughter that can remind us that life is sometimes about moving forward, not always about being new, but also about returning to the self to which we once aspired.
The film conveys the touching message that what we think we want is not necessarily what we need. Like Alex, we often get caught up in high expectations of life and forget to look at the little things around us. Happiness is often hidden in simple moments and sincere connections, which we often overlook. Life lists remind us that perhaps the answers we seek are already in sight.
Don't worry, there are no spoilers here, so if you haven't watched the movie yet, it is highly recommended. Especially if you are in a phase where you are looking for direction in life, doubting your decisions, or just need a warm and heartfelt story. This romantic comedy film is perfect for anyone who needs a reminder that happiness often comes in its simplest form.
Life is beautiful and messy and complicated, and sometimes it doesn't look the way you think it's supposed to look, and that is okay. Keep going and always be brave. —The Life List
